Sittin On the Dock of a Bay

I never realized before how immensely sad of a song it is. Sounds like a sweet little ditty, complete with whistlin’. But it’s about someone who can’t get along with anyone and has decided to just be completely alone. Nothing left to do with life but just stare out into nothing. He left his home in Georgia to go to San Francisco, for what? 2,000 miles he roamed just to make a dock his home. He’s done with trying, he can’t change, so he guesses he’ll just remain the same. And sit on the dock of a bay, just watching the tides roll away. He’s got nothing to live for, nothing’s gonna go his way. So, fuck it, he’ll just keep sitting on a dock in San Francisco Bay, the end.
